Grace Church Stirchley

Seasonal Events  ‘25/26

At Grace Church Stirchley we love an opportunity to celebrate and share stories together. This year we have already celebrated our Nativity Trail where we enjoyed crafts, games, food and Nativity storytelling together, and we are planning more! We are looking forwards to our Lunar New Year together with our Hong Kong friends where we will eat traditional Hong Kong food and learn the stories which underpin this festival. After that we are planning an Easter Fun Day where we will have inflateables, food, crafts and an interactive retelling of the Easter Story.

Who:

Grace Church Stirchley is an independent church in Stirchley, South Birmingham. It is a diverse community of Jesus followers with a desire to show love to our community and be a blessing in Jesus’ name. Though our events are organised by staff members, the majority of the work is done by the members of the church volunteering their free time.

What:

Our Seasonal Outreach events have grown from a small Christmas and easter family service into large “trails” attracting hundreds of families from the local community, and this year in order to serve our growing Hong Kong community who attend our English Classes we are working together to put on a Lunar New Year meal. The events have always included elements of hospitality, storytelling and crafts, but in recent years as popularity has increased we have sought to improve both the size of the event and the quality of resource we are able to offer – this is such that at all of our events we’ve increased our food provision to home-made cakes at the Nativity trail, a (free!) food van at the Easter fun day and authentic East Asian cuisine at the Lunar New Year meal.

In 2025/26 we are aiming for 550 guests across the Nativity and Easter Trails with each guest going away with a quality craft activity, a deeper understanding of the biblical stories of Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection, a full stomach and heart!

Why:

We have always sought to be a church with an outward vision: We believe that as followers of Jesus it is essential for us follow his teaching to “love your neighbour as yourself”. This means we seek to focus on 2 things for our events. Firstly that we show love in the way we welcome and show hospitality to our community. Our faith is built on a God who has shown us hospitality and welcome, therefore as his followers it is incumbent on us to do likewise.

Secondly to provide quality activities for our community – we believe that being welcoming and kind is not an excuse for poor quality. We aim to provide high quality craft activities, storytelling and food that people see that we are an organization that does not skimp on investing in our community events – we put everything into these events because we believe we have a God who has blessed us with every good and perfect gift, so, again, it is incumbent on us to go and do likewise.

We are also seeking to embrace the diversity of our local community, so we ensure that all our events are alcohol free, and the snacks are all Halal, in order that our Muslim neighbours do not feel excluded. In addition we have delegated responsibility for our Lunar new Year meal to the Hong Kong members of our church family – understanding that they know best how to show love to their community.
