Thriving Families

Welcome to Thriving Families, a project that supports parents at YMCA Living Springs to thrive as a family.

Our families demonstrate incredible resilience whilst facing challenging circumstances. Thriving Families builds on that strength with compassionate, research informed support. Through an internationally accredited parenting programme we support caregivers in understanding and responding to their children’s attachment needs. In supporting the parent to foster a secure parent-child relationship, the project nurtures children’s resilience, wellbeing, and a love of learning. Thriving Families offers families the chance to flourish together – and invites parents to discover just how powerful their care can be.

Thriving Families: Supporting Parents, Nurturing Children

Introduction

Thriving Families is a project delivered at our Stourton site, offering an internationally accredited parenting programme supporting families to flourish. Families at our site demonstrate incredible resilience whilst facing challenging circumstances such as homelessness, domestic abuse, trauma, and mental health challenges. We have witnessed firsthand the stress and difficulties of parenting in these circumstances. Our programme empowers parents with compassionate guidance to meet their children’s needs and supports secure, loving attachments that promote resilience, wellbeing, and long-term positive outcomes for children’s lives.

Who We Are

As a Christian charity with over 30 years of experience supporting families, and now part of YMCA Black Country Group, we provide safe, welcoming housing and holistic care. We house families experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness due to domestic abuse, overcrowding, or mental health challenges. We provide support in education, parenting, budgeting, home care, and children’s activities. We also create a community where families feel valued, safe, and supported, while drawing on our wealth of expertise and local partnerships to connect residents with additional services when needed.

Our Approach

Our approach is rooted in our Christian values and a commitment to creating a safe, nurturing community where families can heal, grow, and thrive. We provide more than housing: we offer a supportive environment where families experience care, connection, and practical guidance, surrounded by nature and shared spaces that encourage wellbeing and learning. Through holistic support, positive activities, and opportunities to build confidence and life skills, we empower families to strengthen relationships, discover their potential, and prepare for a positive future. Our approach combines compassion, community, and encouragement to help every family flourish.

What We Will Do

Thriving Families recognises that strong, secure parent–child relationships are the foundation for healthy development. Our project delivers an internationally accredited programme that uses evidence from attachment theory and trauma research to help caregivers reflect on their children’s emotional needs. The programme supports nurturing, compassionate parenting connections that focus on strengths, compassion, and understanding. This will support parents to provide the best possible care, fostering secure attachments that increase resilience, encourage learning, and improve long-term outcomes. Thriving Families helps parents realise their potential and supports children to thrive in loving, secure, and supportive homes.
