Haringey SACRE
Preventing Worldview Misconceptions
Haringey SACRE are seeking to create opportunities to prevent misconceptions and eradicate (or minimise) a feeling of worldview disenfranchisement and exclusion currently reported by Alevi children and young people in Haringey and beyond. The project will focus on the Alevi community in Haringey. The opportunities will include community engagement workshops and dialogue that can be captured in a series of ‘Living Voices’ videos, written transcripts and activities. The Alevi community, school children and the wider community will share in a closing celebration event.
We are seeking to transform the RE experience of children in Haringey. This collaborative pupil and community focused ‘Living Voices’ project seeks to develop secure RE knowledge: preventing misconceptions, in preparation for living in a multi-religious and multi-secular society. The project seeks to foster collaboration between Haringey SACRE and our diverse Alevi worldview community and local schools, strengthening the provision and impact of RE.
We seek to create opportunities for connections between children, schools and our local Alevi worldview community through the project workshops, dialogue, video interviews and activities focusing on diversity and difference, misconceptions and the importance of feeling included and valued.
The project will be an action-research style project – following the safeguarding guidelines of HEP that works alongside schools daily to support the children and teachers in education in the borough of Haringey. The project will work directly with the Alevi worldview members, children and teachers in Haringey schools and also in local community centres/ places of worship. HEP/SACRE will commission some of the workshops, activities and interviewing/videoing to RE Advisers and specialists.
