Dear God...

Xplore! Science and RVE* Sessions

*Religion, Worldviews, and Ethics

Xplore!’s science and religion, values and ethics workshops for Years 3–6 make cross-curriculum connections, encouraging learners to explore how scientific concepts align with teachings across different faiths. Co-created with local religious education advisors and delivered by trained Science Communicators, sessions are interactive and support the Curriculum for Wales.

In 2026/27, a new workshop on ocean conservation will be developed, linking marine science with faith stories such as Jonah and the whale and the feeding of the 5,000, promoting themes of stewardship and care for the environment. Funding will support delivery across North Wales and England to 24 schools.

What is Xplore!?

Xplore! is a leading science engagement organisation with extensive experience developing and delivering workshops tailored to diverse learner needs. Partnering with Wrexham local authority religious education advisors and supported by St Asaph Diocese, Xplore! collaborates with local schools to create impactful cross-curricular workshops. Their skilled Science Communicators work with education advisors and schools across North East Wales, Cheshire, and Shropshire to ensure the programme supports both learners and teachers. With strong relationships established through prior projects, Xplore! is well placed to further develop and expand this work, engaging with up to 40 schools and reaching over 2,000 learners.

What is Xplore! doing?

In the 2026/27 academic year, Xplore! will develop and deliver a new Science and RVE (Religion, Values and Ethics) workshop focused on ocean conservation. This session will link marine science topics such as ecosystems, pollution, and sustainability with faith-based stories including Jonah and the whale and the feeding of the 5,000. Alongside this new offer, Xplore! will continue delivering its established workshops. All sessions are interactive, one-hour workshops tailored for Years 3–6, inclusive of learners with additional needs. Workshops will be bilingual and accessible to Welsh-medium, rural, and larger schools across North Wales.

Why is Xplore! doing it?

This programme aims to strengthen cross-curricular learning by connecting science with RVE in meaningful and engaging ways. The new ocean conservation workshop introduces timely environmental themes, encouraging learners to reflect on stewardship, responsibility, and care for the natural world through both scientific understanding and faith perspectives. Feedback from previous projects highlights the value of this approach in increasing learner engagement and teacher confidence. By continuing to work with established partners and expanding reach, Xplore! will support underserved schools, provide high-quality resources, and deliver inclusive, impactful experiences that benefit both learners and educators.
