Nicodemus
Mentoring Network
The Nicodemus Mentoring Network equips churches across the UK to respond effectively to rising poverty, isolation and poor mental health. With support from the Westhill Endowment, we are expanding a three-part programme offering free mentoring training, group workshops and leadership coaching. This initiative will equip 150 volunteers with practical mentoring skills, strengthen safeguarding and build sustainable support within local communities. By empowering churches to offer structured, compassionate mentoring, the project helps individuals build resilience, reduce isolation and move towards healthier, more hopeful futures.
"Taking Nicodemus’ Mentoring course helped our youth leaders 'get there much quicker' as they build relationships with our young people. As relationships with young people get deeper, youth leaders are exposed to more that is happening in the young person's life." Mikky Baker, Youth Pastor & Minister in Training, Legacy Church Walsall
Who We Are
The Nicodemus Mentoring Network works with churches and Christian organisations across the UK, supporting volunteers and leaders who are already serving their communities through initiatives such as food banks, youth work, night shelters and pastoral care. Our beneficiaries are often vulnerable individuals and families experiencing poverty, poor mental health, social isolation or complex life challenges. We are connected with over 60 church networks, including Anglican dioceses and national partners, enabling wide reach and collaboration.
What We Do
This project delivers a three-part programme designed to equip churches with the skills and confidence to provide effective mentoring. First, we will offer 150 free online mentoring courses, giving volunteers practical tools to build supportive, goal-focused relationships. Second, we will run online workshops, creating space for shared learning, peer support and leadership development around real-world challenges. Third, we will provide one-to-one coaching for at least 25 church and ministry leaders, helping them embed mentoring into existing outreach in a safe, structured and sustainable way.
Why We Do It
Across the UK, churches are often on the frontline of responding to increasing social need, yet many volunteers feel underprepared to support individuals facing trauma or long-term disadvantage. Without proper training, there is a risk of burnout, ineffective support or safeguarding concerns. This project addresses that gap by providing accessible, high-quality mentoring training rooted in both practical experience and proven theory. By strengthening the capacity of churches, we enable them to offer consistent, relational support that helps individuals rebuild confidence, reduce isolation and take positive steps forward in their lives.
