The Lighthouse Attleborough
Ignite Youth Project
The Ignite Youth Project is part of the Lighthouse Charity that has a vision to provide activities and support to the community of Attleborough and surrounding areas to empower, strengthen and equip, thereby building community resilience and sense of belonging.
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to be connected, and known reflecting our Christian values that help to shape what we do and how we do it. Ignite exists to provide this level of support and care to the young people of this local community.
Established almost 20 years ago the team - largely made up of local volunteers – is passionate about providing a safe space, and listening to the voice of those who may not be heard, to create activities and opportunities that respond to the needs that are shared and understood.
Over the years this has included drop-ins, creative projects, detached youth work, intergenerational activities, 1:1 Mentoring support and youth volunteering opportunities.
This means that for the young people of Attleborough Ignite might mean, hot chocolate, or a drama performance, it might mean a listening ear or the chance to teach an older person IT skills, it might mean acquiring a skill or supporting the wider community, it might mean a place to go or a person who cares, it might simply mean being known and heard.
Ignite values collaboration and enjoys a strong partnership with the local sixth form and other community organisations. We strive to be flexible and consistent, creating space for young people to participate in developing and delivering our grass-roots provision. It is not unusual for young people to reflect back that the Ignite Youth Project feels like ‘family.’
