Camden SACRE*
Camden Interfaith Primary Conferences
* Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education
We are going to run five school conferences in 2026 with Camden schools. There will be between 5-6 schools present at each conference.
The KS2 conferences for years 4 & 5 will seek to give pupils first-hand experience of meeting members of Camden SACRE and Camden’s faith leaders, providing them with a positive and challenging day’s learning about difference and diversity in Camden around the themes of ‘kindness’ and ‘community’.
RE Matters has been providing support to SACREs in London for over 15 years. Made up of councillors, teachers, and religion & worldview representatives, this group works together to support Religious Education and collective worship, supporting, inspiring, and transforming learning in schools. We offer a wide range of continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities in Religious Education, SMSC and Collective Worship, as well as offering bespoke support.
In running this project between Camden learning, the LA, SACRE, and local schools, we will ensure that all partners are regularly kept up to date with developments.
We will organise five one-day conferences, each one in a different school, with between 36-40 pupils attending. Camden has 5 neighbourhoods and so we will seek to place one conference in each of these neighbourhoods.
The conferences themselves will give a ‘train the teacher’ opportunity, where staff can watch one of our RE advisors lead learning for the day with pupils. After this. they are given all the resources from the day, allowing them to run the programme back in their school with their class or year group.
Camden released a new RE syllabus to schools in September 2024 and this programme of conferences seeks to provide opportunities for pupils and teachers to learn more about Camden’s faith and belief communities.
Gaining first hand experiences of listening and discussing ideas with representatives is a core part of our RE learning in the new syllabus. The conferences provide an interfaith learning opportunity for pupils and schools, enabling them to learn and grow from in terms of their religious literacy and future understanding around difference and diversity.
