Bridges for Communities
Peace Feasts in Bristol
Our Peace Feast events are at the heart of what we do at Bridges, giving people from different backgrounds the opportunity to meet and build friendships over a meal. The events help to increase people’s awareness of the diverse communities in the city, their understanding of other cultures and faiths, and their sense of connection.
PeaceFeasts take place across the city once a month, in a range of venues where different cultures can meet, newly-arrived refugees can feel welcome, and where start-up catering companies run by refugees can showcase their culinary talent.
Traditionally, each PeaceFeast has one or two key speakers who share their story and musicians from diverse backgrounds who play during the mealtime. We work with partners to ensure a broad range of cultures are represented.
Everyone is welcome and tickets can be booked online. At all of our feasts, we are honoured to invite guests from refugee and asylum seeking backgrounds through our ‘Pay it Forward’ ticketing system, as a way of welcoming them to the city and providing a friendly environment to make new connections.
73 PeaceFeasts have taken place to date with a total attendance of over 3800. In 2022, 99% of attendees reported that they had met someone of a different faith or culture at a PeaceFeast evening.
“I absolutely loved every aspect: the food, the music, the stories and the encounters. The space was held with much joy and gentleness.”
"The first time I came to a PeaceFeast I didn’t know anyone… I started talking and I met new people, I learned a lot from them and the next time I started volunteering. I felt I’m home, even though it’s not my country, I feel really good."
