Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity
Chaplaincy Programme:
Lifting and Soothing Spirits
Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity funds new and advanced equipment, welcoming facilities, innovative research, and impactful staff and patient welfare projects at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Every year, our hospital cares for over 100,000 patients and their families and we work to ensure they benefit from the best care, experience and environments.
Westhill Endowment is generously supporting our ‘Lifting and Soothing Spirits’ programme. This programme enables our multi-faith Chaplaincy team to support our patients and families with their spiritual and religious wellbeing through a range of celebration events, memorial events, bedside activities and bereavement support.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital cares for some of the sickest children in our region. These children and their families are living through incredibly challenging times, times that require the support and care of our chaplaincy team throughout their journey. Our hospital’s brilliant multi-faith chaplaincy team provides spiritual, religious and pastoral support for patients and families regardless of faith.
Being in hospital can be an incredibly scary time for sick children and young adults as it means being away from their friends, family and everything that feels reassuring to them. For families, having a child in hospital can be difficult, stressful and traumatic. The multi-faith chaplaincy team are always on hand to provide a listening ear and perform specialised spiritual care activities, such as prayers and blessings.
Our ‘Lifting and Soothing Spirits’ programme enables our chaplaincy team to provide extra resources and to deliver specially designed activities for patients and families. These activities include a wide range of religious and cultural events – such as our annual ‘Festival of Lights’, celebrating Christmas, Diwali and Hanukkah – a patient choir and hatching chicks in our multi-faith chapel at Easter. Our chaplaincy team also deliver year-round support to those experiencing the loss of loved ones, organising memorial events as well as providing resources for bereaved families struggling over ‘Blue Christmas’ and ‘Blue Eid’.
