Bath and North East Somerset Faith Foundation
Soulful Sunday Mental Health Project
We’re running our Soulful Sunday ‘mindfulness’ get-together events to help address Bath's growing mental health epidemic.
1 in 4 people in Bath will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year. 1 in 6 experience a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week.
There are never enough services available that can truly address the district's mental health issues. Our monthly programmes provide support in a non-judgemental, ‘all-welcome’ setting.
We run our mindfulness events promoting positive mental health, with the aim of combating depression and social isolation every month.
The events are free of charge and include meditation, singing, a talk on ’positive thinking’ and a free meal (vegetarian, cooked locally with local ingredients).
The monthly events support people in need who are dealing with depression, mental health issues, social isolation and anxiety.
Those that attend are from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds. Some are from the city’s faith communities (Christian, Muslim, Hindu), some are of no religious faith, and others are those on low incomes in search of a hot, delicious, healthy free meal.
To host these events each month we work in partnership with MIND – the mental health charity, the council, local radio stations and the Royal United Hospital in Bath. All of these groups either promote the events and/or refer people experiencing mental health difficulties to us.
