Dear God...
“Hardly anyone can ever find God because God is right at the end of your mind after all the background thoughts are gone.”

Barnet SACRE*

A Bold Curriculum Journey

*Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education

Barnet SACRE aims to transform the RE experience of children in Barnet through delivering an evolutionary Agreed Syllabus based on the REC report and work of Prof Ann Taves (September 2025). Teachers are identifying that age appropriate ‘religion and worldviews’ resources are not available.

The Barnet team will audit current materials and national websites and match these against the Six Big Questions posed by Ann Taves. The audit aims to identify where resource development is required. Barnet seeks to hold events to engage with the children, teachers and SACRE to develop these resources

The Barnet project team will initially be auditing current materials available on websites such as the REHubs, REOnline, NATRE, BBC Bitesize, Big Ideas, and Oak, to discover materials and activities that can be categorised under the Six Big Questions posed by Ann Taves, to create a "worldview" approach. The audit would identify areas of need, where materials are missing, and development is required.

Following the audit the Barnet team will hold workshop and network events to engage with the children, teachers and SACRE members to develop resources.

During the collaborative events the team will share the results of the audit, including where the ‘Six Big Questions’ are currently missing resources or where they are not age appropriate.

Together we will create a bank of resources to fill these gaps: stories, texts, activities, real life experiences, videos and other religion and worldviews materials to bring the curriculum alive in Barnet.

The resources will be made available to schools and wider in the national RE community to support the teaching of a religion and worldviews approach in the classroom.

The audit and resource creation will support a far broader educational aim to provide excellent Religious Education in our schools. Barnet SACRE is seeking to transform the RE experience of children in Barnet. The Six Big Questions of Ann Taves are formed around the premise that all humans have asked fundamental questions about existence for millennia and allow children from all religion and worldviews backgrounds to feel included and valued. This new religion and worldviews approach prepares the children for living in a multi-religious and multi-secular society.

By auditing, we hope that this process will also help to support SACRE’s and schools embarking on creating their own worldviews approach.
