Thrive

We are a church charity based in Leicestershire and we believe it is our responsibility to serve the people in our locality in a real and relevant way.

Over the months that the Covid pandemic has been a challenge to our whole nation, we have developed our community project ‘Thrive’ which consists of two community initiatives helping to address vulnerability and marginalisation, disadvantage, and social welfare among the elderly, (though not exclusively) through community outreach activities.

We run singing cafes in six different community venues across our county, aimed at helping people with mental health challenges including Dementia and social isolation. We also offer Tea parties which are designed to help the elderly with mental health challenges and loneliness.

Both the singing cafes and the tea parties have lots of common benefits, helping people engage with community and feel connected. The singing cafes have also been online via zoom since April 2020 due to the pandemic.

During the time of limited social contact, we developed our project and also offered a shopping, telephoning, and visiting service which we have continued with even though we have been back gathered face to face for a few months now.

Both arms of the project enable us to reach and help many, ranging from those who are physically and mentally challenged to those who are isolated, suffering with severe loneliness, with many of our guests accessing both arms of the project. The singing cafes are now in their ninth year and are well established and the Tea Party community is in its fifth year.

Thrive seeks to improve health and welfare be it emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually of those who find themselves disadvantaged, suffering from being on the fringes of society, not able to access what may be available in their community due to their physical and mental limitations.

There is spotlight in the media on some of these challenges with the previous health secretary stating on the issue of loneliness among the elderly, that it is a ‘national disgrace’ and he believes that society has utterly failed to address the problem!

As a faith charity we are doing all we can to help according to our ability.
