Providence URC Church

Living Life Art Exhibition

During May 2019 Providence United Reformed Church in Derbyshire took a free loan of Westhill’s Exhibition, Living Life, a collection of paintings by Ruth Goodheir.

The exhibition was displayed during their Dying Awareness week and was a focus for a reflective service of remembrance, as well as being open to the public every afternoon from 3pm – 7pm as an enrichment to accompanying activities.

Providence URC is a church is a semi-rural small village community with an active interest in the arts. The members of the church all live within the village and have links throughout the community but the church building in on the edge of the village, and not a main thoroughfare so events like this help to engage the church with the community.
Around 75-100 people visited the church specifically for this. It was hoped that the exhibition would initiate conversations around life and death and the church reported that the conversations they had were deep and insightful. Providence URC have reported that the exhibition was well worth doing and something they would consider again for the future.
