What we Achieved:

Thanks to a grant from Westhill Trust, we are looking forward to being able to subsidise schools who are otherwise unable to host our workshop days due to budget restrictions.

In particular, we hope to subsidise schools in low-income areas and/or with high numbers of students receiving free school meals. Over the next 2.5 years, we want to help 25 low-income schools access our project. At an average of 100 pupils attending each event, we aim to reach a minimum of 2500 young people representing low-income demographics.

By receiving funding towards one of our events, schools not only benefit from a creative, professional, and highly engaging approach to questions of science and faith, but are also given access to professors and graduates from top universities around the country, with the time to ask questions and have a taste of what university level study might be like. This will also raise the profile of Theology, Philosophy, and Religious Studies as subjects for study at university, demonstrating their interdisciplinary nature and tackling the traditional assumption that they are not accessible to students from low-income demographics.

Finally, students of all faiths and none have the opportunity to encounter people of faith who can offer thoughtful, well-reasoned responses to some of their biggest questions, encouraging them to expand the horizons of their curiosity.

While the project is fortunate to be housed by the Diocese of Manchester, it currently relies on external funding (through grants and fees for our events). We will continue to partner with the Diocese of Manchester, who provide our infrastructure and support our work in this diocese. We will therefore prioritise support for low-income schools in our region. However, the fund would be available to schools in all areas of the country.
