Liverpool SACRE
Faith 2017 - Near Neighbours

Schools in North Liverpool have pledged to work together for the common good and encourage collaboration between people of different faiths and cultures. A faith based initiative will be delivered during 2017 in partnership with Together for the Common Good, Liverpool SACRE (Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education) the Archbishop of York Youth Trust, Liverpool Diocese, churches of all denominations, fellow faith traditions and community groups

'FAITH 2017: Working Together for the Common Good' will see schools creatively engaging with students from partner primaries, secondary schools and local families/residents to generate shared learning experiences. This will promote inter-faith dialogue and foster mutual friendship and respect among young people and families. The initiative will bring together some of the leading thinkers and speakers on the common good from across the Christian, Jewish and Muslim traditions to focus on how the Common Good can be built. The themes of social justice and social action will underpin this important work.

Representatives from four Liverpool secondary schools and five primary schools, community, civic and faith leaders met with Dan Finn of the Archbishop of York Youth Trust and Jenny Sinclair, Director of Together for the Common Good to start planning for Faith 2017.
Jenny, daughter of the late Bishop David Sheppard, has worked with Alsop High School to produce a Common Good Schools Toolkit following their successful partnership ‘HOPE1016: Working Together for the Common Good. ’The toolkit will be trialed in Liverpool and is intended to provide a stimulus to schools that desire to work more closely with families and residents who wish to build stronger and more resilient communities. It will be available to other schools who wish to be involved in the trial later this year and will be launched in the autumn of next year.
