Dear God...

Chaiya Art Award

Updated info: April 2020
The biennial Chaiya Art Awards is the UK’s leading awards exploring spirituality and faith through the visual arts, with a top prize of £10,000, funded by Westhill Endowment.

This competition has its roots in Christianity but it is about engaging with people of all faiths; those who have no belief in God and everyone in between, giving people the opportunity to explore and experience God through art.

Each theme based award culminates in a thought-provoking exhibition displaying 40-60 artists’ work.

We look
to uncover, promote and reward gifted artists in different mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, photography and video, who express their creativity in response to the given theme.

An invitation to set aside time, to shut out all distractions and revive senses.

From over 700 entries, the 50 artists featured in this curated exhibition invite us to muse with them their experiences, which they lay before us in their work –some are canvas and paper, photographs and video, others cloth and stitch; 3D metalwork and pottery; bronze and stone sculpture; glass and pipework; a movement sensitive robot alongside aninteractive sign with sonic sensors.

What does the theme
“God is...”
ask of each of us?

Whilst our experiences of life are different, we all cry out in pain and pleasure. There is so much we do not understand and have no answers for, but exploring the spiritual is to become a voyager determined to discover a different kind of treasure.

Update: April 2020

Due to the coronavirus the 2020 Chaiya Art Awards, has been postponed until Easter 2021.

However, we feel that art can play such an important role in our current situation, to calm the soul, to challenge our perspectives and world views, to inspire and encourage us, to engage with creativity and the mystery within.

So for the 1st time, people from all over the world can visit our ‘Where is God in our 21st Century World?’ 3D virtual exhibition at the OXO gallery online. Click here to see the "Where is God in our 21st Century World" exhibition.

From over 450 submissions we chose 35 visual arts who responded to the theme with the imagination and creativity. You can vote for your favourite artwork and the winning artist will receive £500.
