Going Further: Day Conference and
Networking Event for Further Education
Chaplains in the West Midlands Region

Colleges of Further Education educate a higher proportion of 16-19s than school sixth forms, and are important presences in their local communities.

There has been encouraging growth in the number of Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges exploring chaplaincy provision in recent years, with new or renewed chaplaincies starting in several colleges regionally.

However, FE chaplaincy is often fragile, relying mainly on volunteers from local churches giving up their time to serve their local college.

This conference aims to offer training and support to FE chaplains in the wider West Midlands region, by providing two excellent keynote speakers, sharing good practice stories and giving chaplains the opportunity to meet in local groups for mutual support and encouragement.

The conference will also explore the scope for those regional clusters to continue meeting two or three times a year as a source of ongoing support.

The conference, taking place at the Priory Rooms, Birmingham, on Wednesday 15 May 2019, is open to both new and experienced FE chaplains and also those seriously considering getting involved in FE chaplaincy.

The conference is organised by Phil Metcalf (WM FE Chaplaincy Ambassador) and the West Midlands Churches’ FE Council (www.wmcfec.org.uk).
