Link 2 Change Job Club

In partnership with Christians Against Poverty we run a free weekly Job Club/ Drop-In service, which is available to anyone regardless of age, gender, faith or background.

The Job Club consists of three main elements – Course, Community and Coaching.

Vineyard5

The 8-week Steps to Employment course uses a workbook which guides Job Club members through:
  • Finding motivation
  • Overcoming obstacles
  • Discovering strengths and abilities
  • Getting to know employers
  • Writing CVs and applications, including covering letters
  • Succeeding in interviews
  • Getting ready for work.

The course uses a variety of individual and group activities, videos and discussions. Trained job coaches/ befrienders are available to help and support members with these, building up towards their written CV/ job application.  Throughout the course, members are encouraged to set themselves goals to achieve for the following week.

The Job Club is intentionally informal, with community time built in to help members to get to know and support each other. The course sessions start with a light breakfast, there is a mid-morning tea-break and members are able to take advantage of The Open Door Session in our community café after each session finishes.

Wherever possible, a job coach will meet with new members before their first session to introduce themselves, explain the course format and content, and the further help that is available through one-to-one coaching. This first meeting helps to break down barriers and functions as a first coaching session. A Goal Steps exercise is used in this and subsequent coaching sessions as a visual aid to show members how they are making progress.

As part of the Getting to Know Employers week of the course, local employers are invited to come in and speak to the Job Club members from the employer perspective. There are also opportunities for mock interviews and site visits, where practicable.

The 8-week course is run three times a year. When the course is not running, the Job Club drop-in sessions are available for new and previous members to call in for support in tailoring their CV, applying for jobs, having mock interviews, etc.

Where appropriate, Job Club members are referred in-house to our Link project, which offers opportunities to develop practical and interpersonal skills through supported volunteer work placements and personal development training.
