Rethinking Conflict
Our Project:

Rethinking Conflict was established in May 2015 by the Rev. Dr. Gary Mason who is the organisation's Founder/Director. Rethinking Conflict are a partner of East Belfast Mission/Skainos a leading NI charity. Rethinking Conflict as a organisation seeks to build on the principles of the Good Friday Agreement by building peace and reconciliation at the sharper more fractured edges of society. The organisation is based at the Skainos centre in inner city East Belfast which is located in an area of high social deprivation still recovering from the legacy of the conflict.

The funding we recieved from Westhill Endowment is for our Peace Building Seminars. They will take place monthly, a total of six of seminars, covering topics such as: ex combatants and human rights; women living in a divided society; and discovering the story of the other side in a human framework; dealing with the legacy of the past; and the role of toxic memory and conflict. We will also be exploring the 200th anniversary of the death of James Orr, a contemporary of Robbie Burns, a United Irish Rebel and a there will be a cultural presentation on his role in 1798 rebellion for a group of loyalist ex combatants.
