Youth Leaders Programme: Thrive

Our Project

Thrive’s purpose is to develop young leaders to bring hope and lasting change to disadvantaged communities. This started in 2010 when Innovista’s Thrive Team (two staff plus eight volunteers) moved into the Barton estate, moving there to reach the most disadvantaged and disengaged young people, and to grow indigenous leaders to transform their own community.

Our vision is to see disadvantaged communities changed for good through the service of young leaders. By living in the community we have built trust with some of the hardest to reach young people, who sometimes live literally next door. We’ve made ourselves available ‘out of hours’ to help them turn crises into resilience-building opportunities, and this is enabling us to make our vision a reality.

Building on a successful pilot Young Leaders Programme we can in 2014, we are running a two-phase Young Leaders Programme for eight 12-18 year olds from Barton, Oxford, who are not-in-education-employment-or-training (NEET) or are at risk of becoming NEET. The training will be in two phases, firstly equipping the participants with 'soft' skills (e.g. resilience) and then to launch and lead their own projects. Please read more about our programme.
