Community Participation Programme

Now more than ever is it important to work towards togetherness. Sawiyan is seeking to create ways to connect local people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and build bridges of understanding.

At the heart of this project are the values of welcome, creativity and community. Based on these values Sawiyan 'creates spaces for people to connect'.

Sawiyan is offering the Community Participation Project. A holistic 3 phase programme offering a way to cross culturally engage communities and to take action against problems experienced by those who are excluded and disadvantaged on the basis of their social background through creative activity.

Each phase of the programme is designed to build on the last working in stages towards a deeper level of engagement and developing the
confidence and skills of local people. The initial phase focuses on education, its core is around learning and improving English.

The second phase focuses on workshops developing vocational skills and includes the use of storytelling so people are able to share their personal stories and cultural history, build understanding and identify common values and shared interests. The third phase encourages local people to become more visible and active in their communities

The programme aims to support positive change in the local community helping to overcome isolation and offering an opportunity for a cultural exchange and learning along with a sense of fulfilment to lives.
