Can You Apply?

A Guide to the Charity's Grant Giving Policies and Background

Underwriting Initiatives
Westhill offers grants of between £1000 and £20,000 for agreed projects, Larger sums for projects running over two years are considered but matching funding is sometimes advised.

The projects we have supported have provided us with a wealth of experience with which to advise and guide people who now come to us with their plans, or sometimes their dreams.

There is no application form. You are only required to put forward your ideas in a simple and concise way. This is usually achieved in no more than two pages of text supported by a budget.

A successful application will show achievable step by step planned outcomes towards a final goal and show what funds are required to secure each stage.

The open format approach allows you to demonstrate your research and knowledge of the area you intend to work in, your overall confidence and your management vision and skills. Your organisation's up to date accounts and key participants CVs are always welcome supporting information.

If you are not sure about making an application you can send us a half page synopsis setting out your ideas and we will advise you if further work on the approach is reasonable. If you have limited experience in writing up a project, tell us and we will try to help. For additional guidelines, click here.

We are always open to new ideas and initiatives but remember, we do not make grants to individuals, respond to general appeals, fund capital projects or the direct employment of staff.

Procedures

Most applications are dealt with by email in the early stages: final submissions are hard copy on headed paper.

Approved applications are given a number to enable easy tracking through the administrative system.

All applications are assessed by the Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis and applicants advised of the outcome usually within 48 hours after review.

Successful grantees draw down funds, often in agreed stages, under a Letter of Arrangement which sets out the expectations and commitments of all concerned. All grants made are listed on the Charity's website and in the Annual Report and Statement of Accounts. We appreciate reciprocal linking from Grantee websites.

Educational Resources; Free loans: Another way of making grants

Westhill also makes available, on free loan, resources that reflect commitment to the communication of faith values and the exploration of spiritual ideas. We are keen to encourage the imaginative use of these resources where applicants can demonstrate that their use will benefit the wider community.
