Our Project

To develop resources for worship which promote shared religious values towards the prevention of all forms of violence against children including corporal punishment

Outline and background to the project

The Churches’ Network for Non-violence (CNNV) was formed to increase religious support for law reform to end corporal punishment and other humiliating forms of violence against children and to challenge faith-based justification for it.

CNNV aims to develop a network of support, practical resources and information and to encourage people of all faiths to play an active role in reform.

A few years ago we invited church leaders to write prayers and hymns on the theme of non-violence and respect for children’s human dignity. There was an enthusiastic response and a little booklet: “Respecting Children – Resources for Worship” was produced and disseminated widely.

The decision to develop the Prayer and Action Project is a direct response to requests for further resources including orders of service, prayers and readings, vigils, hymns and litanies including multi- religious resources for those who have suffered as a result of violence. This new portfolio of resources will include children’s ideas and contributions.
